(No Ratings Yet)In November of 2005 Sanyo introduced the “eneloop”. It was called a new battery that would replace the dry cell battery for the 21st Century. It has become part of a new generation of nickel metal hydride batteries, promoting a new lifestyle - one where disposing of batteries becomes one of reusing and recycling.
Other quality manufacturers such as Maha Energy and AccuPower have joined in this new true revolution in portable battery power. Some very high quality batteries are now available in conventional cylindrical batteries such as AA, AAA, C-Cell and D-Cell. 9Volt low discharge batteries are also waiting in the wings.
It has taken two years for these NiMH low-discharge AA and AAA batteries to rise to the surface. Of course, insiders have known about them for some time. It takes a wave of information backed by those who are willing to try new things in order for the birth of this new technology to follow its discovery and invention. So the waters have been tested and users everywhere are reporting great tidings.
When stored at normal room temperature (68 degrees F), it is generally claimed that these low discharge batteries retain 90 percent of their charge after six months, 85 percent after one year, and 70 percent after two years. This low discharge quality gives longer life to the battery as well.
Although they have hold their capacity longer, whether used or on the shelf, they are excellent for high drain or high energy requirement applications.

Because of the low discharge, they also work great for what is called “long-term intermittent or low-current uses such as clocks, remote controls, booklights, etc.
High temperatures do increase loss of charge in a battery sitting on the shelf. This type of drain is called “self-discharging”. It is encouraged to keep the batteries in
cool storage environments. A good point of reference that will help is to remember that for every 10 degrees above 68 degrees during storage, the temperature will double the amount of capacity it loses.
Another low-discharge NiMH battery we sell here is the AccuPower AccuLoop AA and AAA Low-Discharge Rechargeable Batteries. Again, as with the Imedion low-discharge and Sanyo Eneloop low-discharge NiMH batteries, the AccuLoop batteries have a lower capacity than the high-drain regular NiMH batteries. However, the AccuLoop 2100mAh AA cell offers, after one month, more usable capacity than a more expensive, conventional NiMH 2500mAh AA rechargeable battery. The prices are cents apart, but there is much to gain from using rechargeables. Either way, low-discharge or high-capacity, you will not lose.
Save time and money.

At Battery Boulevard our intention is to awaken the general public about basic battery technology that will help them benefit by switching from primary batteries, used once and discarded, to the great benefits of rechargeable power. By using recently available rechargeable power, we do definitely help the environment, but we also directly and immediately benefit by saving money as well.
