(No Ratings Yet)Will you swallow anything? Of course not! What kind of question is that, anyway?
We do, as consumers, swallow anything at times. If we are flattered or overcome by someone whom we believe has something we need, some of us step into those shoes of unrequited promise.
Look at how we spend money on electronic devices. Many of us will max out our credit cards and miss meals if it means we can go buy the latest version of some video game. We do not recommend buying the first of anything. There is a great value in standing back and watching the feeding frenzie. The first of anything electronic is a pioneer venture and will need improvement. As we covered in the previous article, (AA and AAA Classic-Sized Batteries vs. “Proprietary Batteries”, March 13, 2008) it is not difficult to find ourselves caught up in some electronic rapture, which is a false sense of well-being. We need to come back to earth.
Definition: Proprietary - belonging or controlled as property by the proprietor or the manufacturer. It is something owned and operated for profit. Nothing wrong with profit, but anything called proprietary can be ended at any time.
So here is the thing. Manufacturers may say their proprietary batteries are special made for the gadget or device. They may promise more capacity in these special batteries. The problem here is that we, as consumers, become dependent upon the manufacturer to keep us on the road. The next version of this device may come out in six months and then another one in 18 months. In all this prolific development, proprietary accessories change and older ones are often cast to the side. This means batteries that are not standard, but instead “special” could and often become unavailable. Your device will become a doorstop.
Buying electronic devices that take standard-sized batteries such as AA, AAA, C-size, D-size, and 9 Volt batteries are going to last longer because you will always have the batteries. When the proprietary batteries are extinct, you will still be using the device you purchased five years ago. Buy for the long-haul!

At Battery Boulevard our intention is to awaken the general public about basic battery technology that will help them benefit by switching from primary batteries, used once and discarded, to the great benefits of rechargeable power. By using recently available rechargeable power, we do definitely help the environment, but we also directly and immediately benefit by saving money as well.
